BSNC is pleased to share the Heritage Preservation Project, a special project aimed at preserving the wealth of knowledge our Elders hold about our culture and heritage. Our Elders often hold invaluable knowledge about traditions, customs and cultural practices that have been passed down through generations. We invite you to join us in this meaningful effort to capture and celebrate their knowledge and stories.
How to Participate:
- Shareholders and descendants are invited to interview an Elder (age 65 and older) in their life.
- Capture the Elder’s responses through writing or recorded video.
- If video isn’t possible, please include a photo of the Elder.
- Each participant can submit up to two interviews for entry.
Sample Questions:
- Name, Date of Birth, Family and Community
- What are your most cherished memories from our cultural traditions?
- Can you share a significant life lesson or piece of wisdom from your experiences?
- How have you seen our community and culture evolve over the years?
- What tradition would you like to see more of in our community?
- If you could teach me one cultural skill, what would it be?
- What advice would you give to younger generations about preserving our heritage?
Submission Guidelines:
- Submit in writing or audio/video via email: photos@bsnc.net or upload to cloud storage (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox).
- Each entry earns a $100 honorarium and each Elder receives $100.
- Videos should be under 15 mins and less than 10 MB.
- We encourage BSNC descendants to register at beringstraits.com/descendants.
Let’s come together to honor and preserve the invaluable knowledge of our Elders! Quyaana!
