
Shareholder Kastyn Lie of Nome continues to make an impact through education, community service, and leadership. The daughter of Erik and Crystal Lie, she graduated from Stanford University in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in Education and in 2026 from the University of Alaska Southeast with her Master of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education. She currently teaches reading at Anvil City Science Academy in Nome.
Recently, Lie was accepted into Stanford Graduate School of Education’s Ph.D. program in Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education, specializing in Race, Inequality, and Language in Education. Over the next five years, her research will focus on multigenerational teaching models and culturally inclusive educational structures.
Her work is deeply rooted in her commitment to Alaska Native students and her belief that Indigenous knowledge and Inuit values should be reflected in educational settings.
Lie serves as Program Coordinator for the Taiguağuurugut “We Read” program and is also the head volleyball coach for the Nome-Beltz Nanooks. In addition to her work in education and athletics, Lie owns Kastyn’s Cakes and Bakes, is a current Caleb Scholar, and was selected as the 2022 recipient of the Beringia Settlement Trust Tim Towarak Memorial Scholarship.
In 2025, BSNC nominated Lie for the Alaska Federation of Natives Lu Young Youth Leadership Award.
BSNC congratulates Kastyn on her many accomplishments and wishes her continued success as she advances her education, research, and service to the people of the Bering Strait region.
