Bering-Weston Joint Venture (BWJV), a joint venture between BSNC company Bering Straits Global Innovations, LLC and Weston Solutions, Inc., provided emergency water pre-treatment services to the Asheville, NC, community following Hurricane Helene. Mudslides triggered by the hurricane caused the Bee Tree Reservoir, which supplies the William Debruhl Water Treatment Plant, to become highly turbid and noncompliant with drinking water standards, leaving thousands of residents without access to clean water.
To rapidly restore water to safe, potable standards, BWJV completed a design, including plans and specifications, for a Mobile Turbidity Reduction System in full compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. The turnkey solution included dissolved air flotation units, multimedia filters, chemical feed systems, high-density polyethylene piping, diesel-powered pumps, while managing civil construction, stormwater controls, and site assessments. The complex system was fully deployed in just three months, addressing urgent public health needs on an aggressive timeline.
The project successfully restored the community’s access to safe drinking water, ensuring the health and well-being of residents and providing critical services during an emergency. Initiated under a United States Army Corps of Engineers contract, operations continue with a long-term commitment and the flexibility to serve the community’s needs well into the future.
