BSNC is honored to recognize shareholder Reuben P. Weyiouanna for his 24 years of dedicated military service. After graduating high school, Weyiouanna enlisted in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington, and advanced training in Monmouth, New Jersey. He was then deployed to Vietnam, where he served as a tactical microwave radio repairman on Hon Tre Island, honing his expertise in radio repair. He also demonstrated exceptional marksmanship, earning the sharpshooter award twice with his Army team in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Following his tour in Vietnam, Weyiouanna returned to the U.S. in 1970 and was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida until his honorable discharge in 1971. In 1982, he continued his service by joining the Army National Guard, where he served until his retirement in May 1991.
Beyond his military service, Weyiouanna has remained deeply committed to his community. He has served on the Native Village of Shishmaref Council, the City of Shishmaref Council, and currently sits on the Shishmaref Native Corporation Board of Directors. A steadfast advocate for his village and people, Weyiouanna continues to share his knowledge and experience, always willing to mentor and support those eager to learn.
