BSNC congratulates shareholders Dr. Barb (QasuGlana) Amarok, Carol Huntington and Dr. Nora Nagaruk Aiyuu who each received Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) President’s awards.
Dr. Barb “Qasuglana” Amarok received the Eileen Panigeo MacLean Education award for helping to improve educational opportunities for Alaska Native people. Carol Huntington received the Hannah Paul Solomon “Women of Courage” award for helping manage Kokrine Hills Bible Camp on the Yukon River for 27 years with her husband Roger. Dr. Nora Nagaruk Aiyuu received the Della Keats “Healing Hands” award for her service as a doctor in our Region, where she returned in order to provide needed medical treatment and care for our people.
AFN also announced during the Convention that shareholder BeeJay Gray was selected as one of the Heroes in Our Homeland. AFN introduced the contest this year to celebrate the everyday heroes who positively impact communities. BeeJay is known as a sober and traditional role model, for her kind and generous heart, and for sharing the traditional foods she and her husband and family have harvested with the community of Nome.
