At BSNC, we have focused on growing shareholder programs and support. The last ten years represent a remarkable period of growth and performance for the Company. Fiscal year 2021 marks the 17th consecutive year that BSNC has achieved positive financial results. In the last decade alone, BSNC distributed $41.3 million in shareholder benefits, representing 84% of all benefits paid to our shareholders since BSNC was founded.
With this growth, BSNC has grown its Summer Internship Program. Since 2013, BSNC has helped prepare tomorrow’s leaders for the workforce by providing paid internships and professional development training each summer to qualified shareholder and descendant students enrolled in college or technical school. Interns gain valuable work experience working with staff in their professional area of interest and attend trainings on BSNC’s corporate business structure and history, ANCSA, Alaska Native policy issues and meet with Alaska Native leaders.
Since 2013, 59 shareholders and descendants have participated in BSNC’s Summer Internship Program. Six former interns are currently employed by the Company. BSNC will begin recruiting for its 2022 Summer Internship Program in January. Internship positions are full-time (40 hours per week), and the internship period is from May 16 to Aug. 5.
