Acknowledging the importance of the region’s elders, the Board of Directors of the Bering Straits Native Corporation has voted to issue a one‐time special dividend of $500 to all qualifying elders. The resolution was passed last Saturday at the BSNC board meeting in Nome.

Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) announces the promotion of Chief Executive Officer Gail Schubert to President & CEO. Schubert was appointed to fill the combined President & CEO position after long-time BSNC President Tim Towarak resigned to avoid any conflict of interest with his new position as Chair of the Federal Subsistence Board.

The Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) board joined several other Native organizations from across the state today by endorsing Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s write-in bid for the US Senate. This is the first time the organization has voiced public support for a candidate.

The Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) Legislative Committee called for an immediate convening of the full AFN Board of Directors to ratify it's endorsement of Sen. Murkowski’s write-in candidacy.

Ratification of the endorsement would be followed by a vote by AFN’s full membership at the group’s upcoming annual convention, October 21-23, 2010 in Fairbanks, AK.
